Posted in Festivals, Kites, Landscapes by Mayank on January 15, 2010

A misty evening sky over Jaipur got beautifully decorated with kites on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival popularly known as kite flying day and celebrated on January 14 every year. Thousands spent a busy day on roofs of their houses flying kites while the streets bore an almost deserted look! (Photo date: January 14, 2010)

A kid flying a kite at Nahargarh, overlooking Jaipur

A young boy flies a kite from the old path that leads to Nahargarh Fort from Jaipur walled city. The kite season—that roughly falls between November and January—peaks on January 14 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival popularly regarded as kite flying day. For kids all over Rajasthan, the kite season is an exciting time when some even give up Cricket to fly kites! (Photo date: December 21, 2006)

Children flying kites at dusk

Children flying kites at dusk, from a rooftop near Chandpole Bazaar. I loved the criss-cross pattern that overhead wires were creating at this place, together with the silhouettes. (December 21, 2006)
